Collected By Hayley.
In her travels around the world (real and imagined) Hayley has a longish shortlist of those places where she feels an affinity for particular products and the stories that go with them. Here are a few of her favourite things anchored in their place of origin, and as brought to us in her own words (the quotes are direct from the source!).
Murano / Burano / Venice
Rexa Design's Glass Basin – because it's just so beautiful to look at and to use.
Hay's 'Sip' straws – not strictly from Venice, but the fact that they are made of beautiful glass, and (frankly) remind Hayley of a few super cool aperitivos enjoyed in this place, gives them an entry in this geography:
"I wasn’t convinced about glass straws until I sampled these (my favourite is the small cocktail straw) perfect for stirring and sipping, wide enough so it doesn’t get clogged up, comes with a handy brush (I just pop mine in the dishwasher) cool colours and they make a beautiful sound when they clink against the glass. They elevate any drink (not just a G&T) and make it taste better. They make a great gift, my favourite colour is the green one!"
Amsterdam
Hay 'Colour' vase collection – by the design house of Scholten & Baijings, based in this Dutch capital city.
Tulips from Amsterdam, or flowers from wherever you find them, couldn't be happier than sitting in one of these graphically appealing glass vases – inspired perhaps, by the shapes of the, tell-tale and tall, gabled buildings of this super colourful city.
Beldi, Marrakech
Beldi glassware (coming soon!) – quirky, recycled, gorgeous in green, celebrating imperfection and non-conformity and a joy to put on the table – what's not to love? And Hayley loves the place as much as she loves the glassware – see photographic proof attached of Hayley in a semi-hostage situation (and see the rest of her note below!)
Sneaking in here as a Beldi inspired celebration of colour clashing colour blocks, and recycled 'circular-economy-forward' cheerfullness. These vases make a statement unadorned, imagine how glorious they look full of flowers!
"If you haven’t visit the Beldi country club in Marrakech then you need to go there, not only is it a beautiful setting to escape the hustle and bustle of the main crazy Medina, you can experience the best hammam and lunch, but more importantly it houses is own garden souk selling various traditional wares, kilm rugs, embroidery and also the Beldi glass atelier. You can watch a team of glass blowers product beautiful objects from recycled glass, the Beldi plant is the last one to produce blown glass in Morocco."
(Also) Marrakech
Popham – you only need to take a look at our showrooms to see how much everyone adores these. Gorgeous, individually unique, these hydraulically pressed, pigment rich, artisan made tiles whisper of their past and speak boldly of their present. Discovered on Hayley and Tony's travels, this is a brand they absolutely could not bear to leave behind.
Barcelona
Vibia lights
Based in this vibrant city once dubbed 'the capital of cool', this lighting company is one of Hayley's first picks for the showrooms and the website – and all we need to add is that to know their lights is to love them!
Milan
Rexa P’tit – call it how you will, à la française (as intended), or in the English style (as Hayley sometimes does, just because it's funny!), the stylish Milanese will likely not mind – because they know they have created something beautiful, useful, and fit for purpose in the smallest room of the house (and Hayley is a super fan!)
Copenhagen
The Organic Company 'Wellness Towel'
"This towel was intended for wellness and beach situations, I’m disappointed to confess I don’t have as many ‘wellness or beach situations’ as I would like, so I use it for daily ‘Shower situations’ and it works perfectly. I like the super absorbent thin material, I can tie it around me and it doesn’t fall off, it's big, like a cuddle blanket, and I can quite happily sit in it for hours to avoid getting dressed. Its compact, it folds well…I won’t use any other towel."
'nuff said!
Broste
There's so much to choose from here – start by taking a look at the 'Salt' range and move outwards across the brand from there.
Elsewhere in Denmark
"This is the best ice cube tray in the whole world, we know from experience, it’s the best for several reasons
- the Miami colours of pink and teal
- the extra-large perfectly formed cubes of ice it produces
- the ease of popping them out, and
- you can pimp your cubes with other stuff combined with liquid.
Top tip, we transfer the cubes to a freezer bag once set, so you always have a stash of generous cubes."
Coast of Norfolk
Norfolk Living, for beautiful handwash and other household cleaning products that look and smell divine.
London
Buster + Punch – for cool industrial stylings
Marc Wood – for beautiful lighting that marries the ice and fire of Bohemiam crystal and English engineered metal work.
Belgium
Vincent Sheppard – contemporary cool with a retro mid-century vibe that manages to blend ideas of the Riviera and Palm Springs with some Blake Edwards movie-esque stylings. Hard to describe exactly, but if you know what we're talking about, you'll recognise the style notes once you see the furniture.
Shanghai / Tokyo
Stellar works – added here for their classical stylings, traditional techniques and beautiful materials. Crafted for a modern world, destined to become valued heirlooms for future generations their furniture is beautiful, comfortable, understated, and elegant – as of its time as it is utterly timeless – and, for Hayley, a 'go to' people pleaser in more projects than she cares to count!
We hope you have enjoyed Hayley's tour around her favourites, and that you might make a few stops around the Day True Home range to discover more about your favourites from this list.
